Our adventure to see the Red Sox in Boston started in Salt Lake City early one Friday morning, after double (and triple) checking that we had everything we needed for the week ahead. We hit the road, setting the airport in our sights and preparing for the long flight to come.
The next couple hours were a flurry of checking in, dropping off our bags, grabbing some much-needed coffee, and getting organized at the gate. Before long, it was time to board and we set off for Boston.
After getting settled at the hotel, we spent our first afternoon walking around a nearby park, enjoying a beautiful day of sunshine, and getting our first lobster rolls of the trip.
After a long day of travel, we wrapped up the night with some pizza and drinks on our hotel’s rooftop terrace, which looked out over Fenway Park and the surrounding city.
Sunday came, and it was time for the first highlight of our trip: a Boston Red Sox game.
With our hotel only a block away from Fenway Park, we had plenty of time to gear up in our favorite Red Sox hats and jerseys and walk through Yawkey Way before the game, stopping to watch the live music, a magician, and the iconic man on stilts.
After scoping out the best spot to get some Fenway Franks, we made our way to our seats on top of the Green Monster.
Although every seat in Fenway Park is amazing, the view from the seats on the Green Monster was unlike anything we’d seen at any other baseball field.
It was amazing to watch the Red Sox play (and win!), sing Sweet Caroline in the 8th inning, and chow down on the best hot dogs all of baseball has to offer.
After the Red Sox game, we took a couple of days to focus on down time.
We went for walks to new coffee shops each morning, explored the city, read books on the hotel’s rooftop terrace, and ate amazing food.
Our hotel was central to lots of restaurants, parks, and museums, so we were able to easily walk anywhere we wanted to go.
Wednesday arrived, and with it came our next adventure: the Madness concert. Madness, an English ska band, mainly plays their shows in Europe and other countries overseas, so when we found that they would be playing a show in Boston, we knew we had to go.
On the night of the concert, we were some of the first people to enter the venue, so we raced to the merch counter before a line formed. After securing some t-shirts, the warmup band started playing and we made our way down to the floor where we were met by one of Madness’s band managers.
We followed him backstage, where we had the incredible opportunity to meet the band and take photos with them before they went on stage.
They were all very kind and made the experience even more special.
After meeting the band, we found our seats and settled in for the concert. We sang along to many of our favorite songs and had a great time.
After the concert, we spent a couple more days relaxing and exploring close areas of the city, including more parks, an art museum, and the neighborhoods around Boston College.
With Team Gleason’s help, we were able to do and see so many amazing things, and we had an incredible trip in Boston.
