In Partnership with the Permobil Foundation, Team Gleason will continue to help more individuals living with ALS stay more independent.

NEW ORLEANS, LA – (May 3, 2021) – Team Gleason and Permobil have a shared passion for improving the quality of life for people with ALS.  Team Gleason is proud to announce that they have partnered with the Permobil Foundation for the fourth year in a row to provide seat elevators to individuals living with ALS. The seat elevator provides individuals the opportunity to adjust the height of the wheelchair seat, providing easier and safer transfers, increased access to the environment, and improved social engagement. While the seat elevator is often described as an integral part of the wheelchair, Medicare and most other insurance companies currently do not cover this feature. The partnership includes donated seat elevators on new chair orders that will benefit 600 people living with ALS this year.

“We constantly explore ways to better meet the extraordinary needs of the ALS community,” said Blair Casey, Team Gleason’s Chief Impact Officer. “Our continued partnership with the Permobil Foundation allows for more people with ALS to have the ability to interact with their environment and decrease caregiver burden,” he added. “Most insurance doesn’t cover personalized features that provide added comfort and greater independence. This generous gift from the Permobil Foundation allows us to make a much greater impact.”

In addition to providing the wheelchair seat elevators, the Permobil Foundation will also sponsor a Team Gleason Adventure. “We believe these adventures are not only inspiring but also create opportunities to educate others about ALS. It’s a story of resiliency and empowers ALS families,” said Casey.

“Our goal is to ensure that every person has the right to mobility and through impactful partnerships with non-profits such as Team Gleason. By assisting ALS individuals we can better fulfill a life of independence for our customers needing assistance with complex rehab technologies. Additionally, we take this a step further by fast-tracking ALS chair orders through production to ensure each ALS patient gets their custom Permobil wheelchair without any delay,” said Ashley Davis, Executive Director of the Permobil Foundation.

Living with ALS can be isolating but adding a seat elevator impacts the quality of life of ALS families. “The power wheelchair allows me to move freely about my home and provides a sense of independence that all pALS crave. The Permobil seat elevator enables me to adjust my height to hold eye-to-eye conversations at counters, tables, and even our bar in the basement!” said Bob Sinnott. “To be able to be at the same level as my kids when we watch a game or a show makes me truly happy.”
