Team Gleason partners with Permobil Foundation for the 3rd Year
In Partnership with Permobil, Team Gleason will continue to help more people living with ALS stay more independent.
NEW ORLEANS, LA – (March 25, 2020) – Team Gleason and Permobil have a shared passion for improving the quality of life for people with ALS. With this in mind, Team Gleason is proud to announce that they have partnered with Permobil for the third year in a row to provide seat elevators to individuals living with ALS. The seat elevator provides individuals the opportunity to adjust the height of the wheelchair seat, providing easier and safer transfers, increased access to the environment, and improved social engagement. While the seat elevator is often described as an integral part of the wheelchair, Medicare and most other insurance companies currently do not cover this technology. The partnership includes donated seat elevators on new chair orders, a value of over $100,000.
“Our focus each day is to explore ways to better meet the extraordinary needs of the ALS community,” said Paul Varisco, Team Gleason’s Executive Director. “We are so grateful to have the continued support from the Permobil Foundation,” he added. “Most insurance doesn’t cover these personalized features that provide added comfort and greater independence. This generous gift from Permobil gives us the opportunity to reach so many more people in need.”
In addition to providing the wheelchair seat elevators, Permobil will be a sponsor of the 10th annual Gleason Gras, a kick-off to the New Orleans Saints Season. Their $15,000 donation will sponsor the ALS tent. This exclusive tent will provide food, drinks and front row access to the music stage. The funds raised will benefit the Team Foundation mission. Permobil will also be a hole in one sponsor for the Tim Shaw Golf Tournament in Nashville, TN.
Not only are we helping individuals with ALS, but their independence is a relief for their caretakers. “Steven and all of us in his family would like to express our deep appreciation for Team Gleason and Permobil for the seat elevator grant. Thanks to you, my dad is still able to cook, get things for himself from high cabinets,” said Giulia. “And in his own words, as a 6’5″ man, in this chair, I can still make people feel small.”
