Team Gleason was excited to help Edward and his entire family return to the beach. Edward grew up on the beach in Florida and was able to create new memories with his grandkids on the beach in North Carolina.
Our favorite part was being together as a family and having Edward’s children and their family under one roof. The constant shouts of “Grandad!!!” And hugs on Grandad was the best!!!❤️ The shrimp boil our son and his wife gave Edward, the amazing surprise gift spearheaded by our daughter and her twin sister that discovered Team Gleason!!!!!❤️❤️❤️
The airport was daunting, but the airline was so helpful. We found using a family bathroom was easy as I could assist Edward and he was not alone-a great discovery. We also faced not having the same wheelchairs and equipment, but we were resourceful, and friends let us use theirs. Things have a way of working out. The accessibility was not great with no nonstop flights but two of our children could drive.
This trip meant the world!!! Being together back at a sentimental place for all of us was special as well as introducing this beach to spouses, boyfriend and grandchildren.

Taking a beach wheelchair for the first time was the most memorable part of the adventure. We did it and it allowed Edward to enjoy the beach and watch his grandchildren enjoy the ocean. The town of Wrightsville Beach, NC let us use the wheelchair.

What advice would you have for someone else going on a similar adventure?
Go for it!!! We worried a bit about food, but it all worked out perfectly. Creating memories for all the generations was so meaningful.
