We were blessed to travel to San Francisco —

a destination I’ve always wanted to visit.

The day of our flight we we’re asking the gate personal about how they would handle getting the power chair on the plane. By chance, the pilot was there and walked over to see my chair.

We had a great conversation with Matt, the pilot. He was so down to earth and friendly. After we landed in San Francisco, he even stay with us to make sure my chair was okay and I good to go.

The hotel Zephyr was amazing, all nautical themed, handicap accessible, clean and very comfortable.

We were just a 5-minute walk away from Fisherman’s Wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square to name a few.

The food is absolutely amazing. If you’re into seafood then you’re in for a treat. Boudins has an amazing sourdough bread bowl clam chowder. Their sourdough bread is awesome, soft and fresh.

Alcatraz Island is a must visit, a short ferry ride will get you to the “ROCK” once there the tour is so interesting and informative.

Not sure how anyone could have been imprisoned there; it’s so small and cramped.

Fun fact: Alcatraz was the only prison to offer hot showers to inmates because they did not want them to get accustomed to cold water in the event of escaping.

Which I take did not work in their favor.

You can take a ferry to other islands or across the bay to places like Sausalito, Angel Island and Tiburon. You can buy your tickets at the Ferry Building.

Visiting the Ferry Building is an adventure in itself; there are shops for everything from wine, sweets, clothing and food. Definitely a must visit.

I want to thank Team Gleason for allowing us this amazing adventure to San Francisco; we made some wonderful memories there.
