I am excited to announce the national search for a Managing Director to join Team Gleason’s second decade of empowering the ALS community and beyond. In the coming months, we will be looking for a leader who will complement and embody the organization’s initiatives through collaboration, compassion, strategy, responsiveness, accountability, and inspiration.
I would, however, be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge this search is a result of the retirement of our current Executive Director, Paul Varisco. When Michel and I asked Paul to lead this organization 10 years ago, none of us had any idea of the magnitude and impact this journey would create. But, without question, we would not have made the impact nor would we have helped as many people as we have without Paul’s steadfast leadership, wisdom, dedication, and patience.
We are enormously proud of what we have accomplished over the past decade with Paul as our leader. While Paul’s decision was not an easy one, it was made easier knowing Team Gleason is in great health and primed to tackle the next decade. Our foundation is seeking to add an experienced, wise, compassionate, and effective leader to replace Paul. We’d like our new hire to join veteran team members Blair Casey, incoming Executive Director, and Sally Cox, Chief of Staff, on our Executive Team and staff.
When I was diagnosed with ALS 11 years ago, I was told to prepare to die. Instead, I chose to prepare to live. I intended to create a foundation to help other people in similar circumstances prepare to live as well. At Team Gleason, we believe in empowering people to continue to live meaningful lives, despite an ALS diagnosis. We believe everyone should be given the opportunity to not only live but to flourish.
While we are saddened that Paul will be leaving, we are thrilled to have him and Jill remain active members of our Team Gleason Family. We are eager to launch this search and enter the next phase of evolution for Team Gleason. Our team is an incredible group of humans doing amazing work. Our Managing Director will have big shoes to fill, but we are confident someone will rise to the top with the passion to help others live triumphantly.
No White Flags!
